It’s Official: We’re official!

Well, I guess it’s about time to share the news with the world. Some of our friends and family already know about some of this, but not everyone, but I think it’s about time that we start spreading the word and asking for prayer.

Nate and I officially have a support account set up with Mission to the World (MTW, the official sending agency of our denomination).  We’re currently in the process of planning a "vision trip" to the Philippines in October in order to discern whether or not it is the place where God is calling us to live and serve.

In case youre EXTREMELY confused, let me back up…

As most of you know, especially since I’ve posted about it on here before, Nate and I have felt called to the foreign mission field for some time now.  We’ve spent several years corresponding with MTW and praying about the possibilities that the future might hold for us in foreign missions.  We spent years knowing we were called, but not knowing when or where we were supposed to be going.

Over the past year, we have continued praying and feel strongly that God is answering both of those questions.  He is beginning to open our eyes to the timeline He has set out us as well as the location he has chosen for us.

I have been at RTS working towards my Masters in Christian Education for about a year and a half now, and I will finish (hopefully) next spring.  Nate starts his Masters of Divinity full-time at RTS later this month, and he will finish in about 3 to 3.5 years.  Ideally, we would like to be heading to the field around 6 months after he finishes school.

Right now, we are seriously considering and praying over the very real possibility that God might be calling us to join a team in Manila, Philippines.  We have been meeting with the team leader and his wife, and we have spent some time looking into the ministry and work that they are doing over there.

The team has been steadily praying alongside us, and we all feel that we have come to the point where Nate and I should make a trip to Manila to take a closer look at the ministry there, spend some time with the team, and continue our work in discerning whether or not this is the location that God is leading us to commit to.

As a result, Nate and I have recently had an account set up in our name at MTW in order to receive tax-deductible donations in support of our trip and our future ministry. This means that people can officially begin supporting us as we steadily head towards the field.  We arent sure how much money it will cost us to go to Manila yet, but we’re estimating between $3000 and $4000, much of which will go to plane tickets. Anything we raise above and beyond the cost of this trip in October will be credited towards our long-term account and will help us as we go through the process of becoming long-term missionaries with MTW.

ARENT YOU EXCITED?!?  I know I am!!

I am in the process of developing prayer cards with our account information on them so that people will know exactly where and how to donate their support, and as soon as I get them completed I’ll post them on here.

Our main request is that you continually PRAY for this process for us.  We are extremely excited about these developments, and we CANT WAIT to see what God has in store for us.  Pray that we will know without a doubt whether or not God is calling us to the Philippines, and that He will raise all of the money necessary for us to go check out the ministry there.  Pray for our families as they adjust to this BIG news, and pray that we will continue to have an attitude of excitement, anticipation, and humility rather than fear.

We are so excited!!
