About

My name is Nikki, and I blog about all sorts of things, like my awesome husband, my kids, faith, missions, marriage, books, and just about any other little piece of nonsense that happens across my train of thought.  I like to encourage others, and I try to use this blog as a means of doing that, while still being open, honest, and transparent about real life.  Hopefully some of it is interesting, and every now and then it might even be funny.  But you can be guaranteed that there will be all sorts of pictures thrown in along the way.

My two favorite photo subjects are Noah and Barrett, my twin boys.  When I was pregnant, my husband Nate said, “just don’t be one of those women that has a good blog, then all of a sudden she has a baby and that’s all she can talk about.”   Oops.  But I can’t help it, because they’re just so dadgum cute.  They were born in June of 2010, and they are the funniest little people I’ve ever met.  They make me want to have about 25 more babies, and I would love it if they all came to me in sets of 2.

One interesting thing that I should probably tell you is that I have Alopecia, a medical condition that causes my hair to fall out, but has no other side effects.   I recently had to shave my head, so I’m sportin’ a new ‘do these days.  I’ve got a wig, but I don’t wear it.  Right now, my hair is in a really weird looking state of regrowth, and it’s super short and unfeminine.  Oh well, it’s just a phase, right?  Just go with it.  (FYI, I wrote three posts on the Alopecia – the first one is when I found out about it, the second is when I had to shave my head,  and the third talks about how I came to terms with the fact that my hair was falling out.)

Nate and I are missionaries with Mission To the World (see our “Missions” page!)  We are currently “intinerating,” which means we’re raising support so that we can actually get to the field.  We’re headed to Bogota, Colombia! You can see more about us and what we’re doing in the missions realm here.  And our “official” bios (along with those of our teammates, the Kines) can be found here.  I have wanted to be a missionary since I was 11, so this was a long time coming.  We are unbelievably excited about long-term foreign missions, and I am kinda hoping that through my blog, you just might get bit by the missions bug as well.  Just a warning (:

In the summer of 2011, we started the process to adopt from Costa Rica… (Which has recently been changed to Colombia- click here to read about how God orchestrated that switch!)  It is a several-year process, so we probably won’t bring our child home until 2013.  Even though we know it won’t be easy, we are thrilled that God has put us on this exciting and emotional journey to grow our family in such a beautiful way.

We both love to travel, watch movies, eat Mexican food, hang out with friends, and spend time with our families.  I stay at home with our boys, and when I’m not feeding babies, changing diapers, or tickling bellies, you can usually find me reading anything I can get my hands on, writing, blogging, and talking on the phone.   Nate loves outdoorsy stuff like climbing, hiking, snowboarding, kayaking, and disc golf, but he’s also a techy, a handyman, a reader, and a musician.  He doesn’t really fit into any one category!     When he’s not doing any of those, he can usually be found harassing Stupidcat, our neurotic and clinically insane house cat who absolutely deserves her name.

She’s not as innocent as she looks.
